Actually no. It was '04. I was there. I used to have to listen to this almost every night just a few hundred yards from my barracks. But it sounded? like it was right outside. It kind of freaked us out the first several times it happened and we ran to the roof to take up fighting positions because we had been attacked a few times at our barracks. This video has been around the internet a lot and people keep thinking it's video of an actual attack. It's just a show of force.

my neighbor was a force recon? sniper back in vietnam and went on to a group in the corps called the black berets then onto shadow company in the CIA

Yeah,? that makes more since. The only thing that suprises me is that you say Force Recon is geared more for direct action than SEALs, i thought SEALs were more direct action and FR are more special and deep recon. but of course both can do the other.

Not sure about that question, Marley. My thinking is that it's more of a political difference than anything. There are some rules regarding who can be called up and for what purpose. Marines can be called up without congressional input where SEALs can only be called with an ok? from the Joint Chiefs. This goes back to the fact that FR Marines are geared more toward direct action than SEALs. Pretty sure there are a number of reasons though.

damn thats intense. glad? you made it out though. yeah, i dont get one thing though. why are there SEALs when Force Recon already existed.did the Navy need its own Force Recon? i know SEALs originated from UDTs, but nowadays FR and SEALs seem similar, except FR is smaller. there are still FR companies, they were just absorbed into Marsoc for a year or two(2006-2008) to get it manned to a certain point.

The round went between the stock of my weapon and my hand. Almost took my right hand off. LOL.... woke? up in the helo with a corpsman's knee on my wrist and him using a scrub brush on the palm of my hand. That's when I went out again....lol

It was tough, but that's why we were there. We did pretty much the same job as SEALs except we? also did some joint ops with other agencies like the DEA and such. Not sure if SEALs do that.
