Hahah no no im not trying to show u up, im just trying to figure this out. And what you said is right cause I just got an email back from a CFI @ a flight school im going to and he said exactly what you said reguarding the left hand movements and what not for changing things? during flight, other wise if you where on seated on the left you'd either have to reach across yourself, or switch hands on the cyclic, which is a BAD habit.
By: shapipple12. on 01 May 09, 01:02:42
haha ye i dunno man but ye your right the keel effect does take over im just thinking of ideas? it could be also so you can change radio frequency's with your collective hand instead of your cyclic hand or if on the left side you would have to reach across your body makes it easier haha i dunno throw me a bone here.

Sorry I pushed the "6" button when saying 1.26, I meant? 1.25 degree tilt.
By: Mockeraina. on 30 Apr 09, 23:33:59
Sorry wrong numbers on? the Tranny degrees. It's 1.25 degrees.
By: Mockeraina. on 30 Apr 09, 23:31:07
Huh, well first off it depends what you're flying. Cause in the B206, the Main Rotor transmission is build with a 1.26 Degree tilt to the left to neutralize the effect of translating tendency. And, translating tendency is only in effect on other helicopters when in a hover, once you start? moving and get over 24kts, it doesn't exist.
By: shapipple12. on 29 Apr 09, 23:29:10
i didnt hear this i know this because? im a helicopter pilot. because of translating tendency you counter it by using left cyclic which in turn makes it left skid low by sitting in the right seat you balance it out more.
By: Mockeraina. on 29 Apr 09, 01:53:02
That's not necessarily true, where did u hear that? Nobody really knows, and the skids are level? so.
By: shapipple12. on 28 Apr 09, 17:21:30
and pilots? sit on the right because the left skid hangs low do to Translating Tendencyand by sitting on the right it balances it out abit.
By: Mockeraina. on 28 Apr 09, 13:56:10
Yeah i already knew longline pilots sit on the left, but this guy isn't longlining. And seriously, just by the way its built i don't think it could longline, well i guess it? could depending on what it was lifting.
By: shapipple12. on 28 Apr 09, 07:40:07
longline pilots usually sit on the left for the fact that the collective is on the left? hand side
By: Mockeraina. on 12 Mar 09, 03:12:12
Well, I know there is a reason for Trubine Pilots to sit on the right, my? dad flys a 206, 206L-4 and a 407 and he's told me the reason before but i can't remember it. I'll ask him tomorrow.
By: Shogo39. on 12 Mar 09, 02:26:53
That's a good question that i dont have the answer to. I guess the helicopter gods made it that way. But? you would think it would all be standard like airplane PIC seats are.
By: Mockeraina. on 12 Mar 09, 02:15:52
Huh, well i knew about the pilot on the right for turbine but didn't about the piston seating arrangement. Why do they sit on the left??
By: Shogo39. on 12 Mar 09, 02:13:36
Where is your "paper" checklist? Someday you will forget something and it will cost you your life.?
By: Shogo39. on 12 Mar 09, 02:12:33
Because in most piston helicopters? the PIC sits on the left side. In most turbine helicopters the PIC sits on the right side.
