But no, he absolutely should not have? left the controls with even the blades turning.

With the revised alternate starting proceedures BHT approved several years ago, the ship can be restarted very succesfully without "hot" starting. The proceedure is in the flight manual, basically leaving throtle in stop cock till 16%, then advancing to Grnd Idle. Many Operators are using the? technique for daily starts as it results in much cooler starts. Not shutting down does save cycles on the turbines though :-)

im not a pilot I am? a mechanic and i dont recommend doing this, but if you are a helicopter pilot you will know that leaving it at idle with the friction on the cyclic stick and the collective locked down, there is no danger in leaving it running on the helipad

Dude, that things has NOS!!! Just kidding, but seriously, whats? that bottle for under the fuse?

I'm sure you know that? had he shut down, he wouldn't have been able to start up for another 20+ minutes without a hot start.

That ship is a dead weight even when it's idling like that. There's no physical way it could leave earth. There are multiple reasons pilots do this, Main reason is if you land somewhere and shutdown but plan on departing in a short period of time, The still hot turbine is more prone to having a "Hot start". It's? much easier (and efficient) to leave a turbine engine running than to restart it after its been operating. Flight schools don't allow this due to certain insurance regulations.

and yes in flight school it would be a dumb thing to do and its parts of you training that one of the first things to do? is put the fricton on so i dought that a helicopter owner like him or pilot would leave it on idle without the fricton on the cyclic stick and the collective locked

im? a Helicopter mechanic
By: helopilot08. on 07 Jan 12, 21:19:49
are you a pilot? the flight school i went to would? kick you out for leaving a helicopter or any other aircraft running unattended. If the friction on the collective were loose on that chopper (or any chopper left unattended and running) it could have hopped off the ground and went into pilotless fit of joy! lol

yes but the pitch of the blades is zero even if there was 50 mph winds it wouldnt do anything even if you pull on the collective at? idle it doesnt do anything
By: atvman101. on 28 Dec 11, 04:16:26
at idle the rpm? is lower than if it was running at 100%, it phsically cannot take off

Cars dont cost 3 million? dollars.

When was this Video taken? I know the area well. I flew out of there in the 70's. 1996 AM Radio Station KGO had a Bell 206, believe it was owned by Commdore Heli. An incident occur, total the Ship. Quote: "Sausalito -- A helicopter leased by KGO-AM Radio to monitor Bay Area traffic was destroyed during a fueling mishap at a heliport, officials said. The Bell JetRanger was unoccupied, no one injured in the 8:20 a.m.? accident" Collective Lock not engaged. Took off and Flipped onside.

Someone is gonna get hurt, might not be today. Always tomorrow. All he would have is lame excuses. Too much money stands in the way of safety anymore. Nice Helicopter, I would shut mine down so I could go piss and use my phone. (he's the asshole at the table no one talks to because all he talks about is his heli that he leaves unattended and uses his? phone.

its only the blade pitch that is? 0 but the rpm is high right?
By: winnipegfiredep. on 08 Nov 11, 12:54:20
Well, if you have a helicopter then I guess you got enough money to pay a little extra for the fuel.? Safety should be everyones TOP PRIORITY.
By: atvman101. on 08 Nov 11, 03:09:59
it saves one shutdown cycle and a startup cycle, in the end its worth? the fuel its burning

Very true, but this is a windy spot. ? It was west at 15 or so at this time, but gusts regularly come through here at 25.
By: atvman101. on 28 Sep 11, 00:51:02
At idle, you can leave a helicopter unattended, its like a? car running at idle, slow winds dont affect a helicopter at idle
By: winnipegfiredep. on 24 Sep 11, 21:02:22
Well if you have enough money to just let the chopper run why not....no? not really safety is not garunteed here!

Yes, not the best focus. It was a brand new camera on its first outing. I wasn't prepared for what I saw. I actually ran the file through a smoothing program so? it wasn't so jittery.

Why? can't you focus?
