why in this day and age can we (as a human race) not have at least attempted this with? the 911 incident then?, surely the US have numerous helicopters which could have been used and authorized to fly in close proximity in order to rescue doomed people on the upper floors. baffles the mind

@coastalman226 He isn't blowing anything out of proportion. The? fire is creating what is called an artificial thermal column, not an up draft. This column rotates within a cylinder, hence why the flag is not flying upwards, but sideways. The helicopter has to fight this column, which sways the rescuer from left to right. And thermal columns can be larger than the actual fire sight, it's just the initial source that sparks it.

I tear up everytime I watch this. Watching the skill of the pilot and the bravery of the firefighter both putting their live's on the line for a stranger is absolutely beyond fucking words. Heroic doesn't even cover what these guy's do every day. When people say 'It's their job', it annoys the hell out of me. It takes a special person to do what they do every day and it should never be taken for granted. With all the shit in the world, these people put my? faith back into humanity

@coastalman226 A fire of that size can reach temperatures of 2000+ degrees. Being a friefighter and chemistry major who had studied fluid dynamics, the fire will create updrafts even some distance away because of the differece between the ambient temperature and the super heated gases rising from the fire. The major obstacle would have been the up draft. Flight characteristics also change due to the visocisty of the air which? is directly proportional to the temperature. Subtitle was right.
